Referring Doctor Info
Plant-Based Medicine can only be prescribed by an Australian-registered medical practitioner, and must be accessed through special federal and state pathway.
The pathways are managed by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) and are known as the Special Access Scheme (SAS).
At Surfers Health Medical Centre, we work in conjunction with the patient’s treating Medical Specialist and General Practitioner to help assess the patient’s overall wellbeing, track patient progress, symptom relief and medication interactions.
Referring doctors will be kept up to date on Governmental approval progress (patient’s SAS -B approval progress) and medication titration. To streamline the application process and Government approval time, the referral should include:
- Patient’s condition
- List of symptoms which are not relieved by current medications/ treatments
- List all current medications/ treatments
- List past treatments and medications which have not relieved symptoms/were not effective
- Any associated adverse side effects of existing medication
- Inclusion of wording such as “Thank you for seeing my patient in regards to a trial of Plant-Based Medicine to help relieve the symptoms outlined above”
If you believe your patient may benefit from Plant-Based Medicine as an alternative treatment, please refer your patient to us.
If you have any questions in regards to writing your patient referral please contact Surfers Health Medical Centre on Phone 07 5592 5999.
